How It All Started
For Winding Roads Tours, the story begins with two Irishmen from opposite sides of the island who built lives, businesses, and community in Long Beach, California.
David Copley grew up in Limerick and has spent more than two decades sharing Irish hospitality as co-owner of the Auld Dubliner. For the past eleven years, he has led annual group trips to Ireland, introducing travelers to the landscapes, culture, pubs, and people that make the country so special.
Christy Caldwell, a Donegal native and co-owner of The Ordinarie, spent more than a decade managing the Auld Dubliner. He joined many of those trips, supporting travelers while sharing his local knowledge, stories, and love for the country he still calls home.
After years of helping people experience Ireland beyond the guidebooks, Winding Roads Tours emerged naturally. Their belief is simple: the best travel experiences happen when you slow down, follow local recommendations, meet interesting people, and discover places that are not always found on a checklist.
Ireland will not be the only Winding Roads Tours destination, but it felt like the right place to begin.
This September, David will lead the Auld Dubliner’s 12th Annual Trip to Ireland, bringing the same warmth, humor, and hospitality guests have enjoyed for years to the roads, towns, and landscapes of his homeland. Christy will support the journey from afar, helping behind the scenes as Winding Roads Tours manages the travel logistics and guest experience.
Together, they bring decades of hospitality experience, local knowledge, and a genuine love for sharing the people, food, stories, and atmosphere that make Ireland unforgettable.
